Cuba vs. the Unites States.Today President Barack Obama arrived in Trinidad this morning. As the President of the United States he wants to ‘seek a new beginning with Cuba’. He would like to speak face to face with the Regime of Cuba, the question is: Will he be able to create a relationship with Cuba now that Fidel Castro is not in leadership? President Obama wants to speak to Raul Castro about human rights, free speech, democratic reform, drugs, immigration and the economy. He strongly believes the United States will create a relationship with Cuba even if it takes a while. He mentions rebuilding a trust will be difficult but not impossible. Almost immediately after Obama extended the offer, Raul Castro responded and agreed to speak to him about human rights, free speech, democratic reform, drugs, immigration and the economy or about whatever else. This is the first time Cuba ever agreed to speak with the United States since the Eisenhower administration. Let’s hope that any relationship Obama creates with Cuba is a peaceful one.

The Federal Budget Deficit

The Federal Budget deficit as of today is 192.3 billion dollars. That means that the Federal government is spending 192.3 billion dollars that our treasury can not afford to spend. Most of the money is spent to help through this recession. The Federal Budget Deficit is expected to be at its highest with Obama’s Administration. It is estimated that the federal Budget deficit will go as high as 1.75 trillion dollars meaning it will be four times more than last year.

Out of 956.3 billion dollars already spent 300 billion dollars was already given out to the national bank and other companies to help with the financial crisis. Obama’s administration will continue to increase the Federal Budget Deficit all the way through 2019. The money that is given to help business survive this harsh financial crisis this allows President Obama to believe that the economy is actually getting better. On the other hand the lower class sees no actual change. Families don’t have enough money to pay the rent and pay off all the bills so really how much is the bailout money really helping us?

Help Madagascar!!!

Madagascar's president resigned this week he handed his power to the military. The United States like always wanted to help Madagascar but President Barack Obama made it clear that the United States is not in the right condition to help other countries.

Even though the United States has a relationship with Madagascar the U.S has suspend billions of dollars that would be provided to them today Friday March 20, 2009. The change of government in Madagascar as Matthew Lee mention in the Associated Press was unconstitutional.

The State Department and the U.S. Agency for International Development have worked closely with Madagascar and since no aid will be provided to them, they fear that this might hurt the work they have done together. Sorry!!! Madagascar but we can not afford to be humanitarians because we are going through a recession.

Food Stamps and Pink Slips!

Many of the teachers and faculty at Los Angeles High School of the Art might be loosing their jobs by the end of the school year. I wonder how New York is paying for their teachers and expanding the eligibility for more families to receive Food Stamps in such bad economy. On March 1, 2009 Commissioner David A. Hansell believes that it is right for many more families to receive food stamps and provided their families with food, but what happens to our teachers who might be loosing their job. Does that mean they will have to apply for Food Stamps too? A solution to this problem would be to use the money to provide more jobs therefore many can start buying their food and forget about food Stamps. I believe that providing food stamps for the most needy is a mandatory entitlement, but I believe that an education should also be something mandatory because it is something that we all benefit form and everyone pays for. Ironic we all pay for it but not all benefit, in this case our teachers.

Mothers have sons, daughters, brothers, and even husbands at war. Husbands have sons, daughter, sisters, brothers, and even wives in war. Their worries will be over on August 31, 2010, President Barack Obama will declared the war to be over by then. In the mean time he intends to withdraw 100,000 troops for Iraq. He strongly advises the Iraqis to take the support he offers them. Obama feels very passionate about the war in Iraq along with fixing the economy he wants to make the war his first priority. He really feels that the mission is not over, he will completely withdraw all the troops when he knows that the streets of Iraq are safe to walk trough, “We will leave the Iraqi people with a hard-earned opportunity to live a better life. That is your [troops] achievement. That is the prospect that you [troops] have made possible." We THANK the Soldiers of American to have been fighting an insignificant war. They will really bring peace to the citizens of Iraq and to the citizens of America. Just like Eisenhower put an end to the Korean War and Nixon to the Vietnam War, President Obama will put an end to the Iraq War. “Yes He Can!”

The Federal Bureau of Reclamation announced that there isn’t enough water to give away to the central valley. After three years of dry weather the valley has to deal with only receiving 75% of water mention in there contract. The General Manager of the Westlands Water Districts claimed that they will try to do the best they can because they do not want to loose so many years of investments. They will keep as many trees alive in whatever way they can. Saving the trees are not enough because now Farmer owner have abounded their land leaving Mendota at a 40% of unemployment. Global Warming has affect out weather and it has also affected the economy, now so many have been unemployed and will have to figure out away to survive under our recession. Water Agencies have asked the public to really conserve water in order to really help the farmer of California.

Who is Elena Kagan?

As we all know that Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg is ill, who knows how long is she going to remain in the Supreme Court? Well no one knows, on the other hand the Senate Judiciary Committee is looking to find the next Solicitor General. Therefore President Barack Obama has let out to the media his candidate for Solicitor General. His nominee choice is Elena Kagan. She is a dean at Harvard Law School for 6 years now. She is only 48 years old, the reason why so many believe she is not right for the job. President Barack Obama has a lot to deal with and they don’t believe she deal with it.

On the other hand Senator Orrin G. Hatch form Utah believes that she is the right candidate even if she doesn’t have enough experience. He states that, “There’s no doubt in my mind that she would be high in their pecking order. “But they’ve made such a fuss about the need to have judicial experience, and she’s had absolutely none. Has she had any experience arguing before the Supreme Court? Not that I know.” Does she have enough experience lets see; she serve as clerked for Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall and she also worked in the White House as a police aide for Bill Clinton. Does she have enough experience well she has to prove to be good enough to represent the United States.

The California courts have received many briefs of the gay community who wishes to discuss the decision made on November of 2008. The November 2008 decisions define marriage between a man and a woman, breaking so many dreams and hopes. The gay community and its supporter believe that their rights have been violated. They have been denied the right to privacy and their right “to happiness”. It is not all lost yet because starting March 5th, the courts of California are willing to listen to arguments that defend and disagree with gay marriage. The courts of California are not the only ones listening to Pros and Cons about gay marriage, our assignments is to receive briefs of the two arguments and make our decision about gay marriage using the constitution and interpreting laws. It is difficult to understand that many still believe gay marriage is insult and it can not exist. Not realizing that gay individuals have real feelings and love like any other couple.

Obama Pro choice

On Thursday January 22, 2009 Roe vs. Wade celebrated its 36th anniversary. 36 years ago a women by the name Jane Roe wanted to abort her baby because she did not have enough money to support him. The Supreme Court decided that women had the right to abort and the government didn’t have the right to intervene in our families. Of course the States are allowed to regulate abortion to protect the fetus. President Obama supports the "right to choose"; Obama believes that in order to prevent abortion people need to be open to "affordable contraception, accurate health information and preventive services". Even though we still have people who do not agree because of their religion abortion is a decision made by the couple. Roe vs. Wade provided women with the right to abort, yet this is still every controversial issue. Obama has declared to be pro abortion, but would really want all those couple to think of their actions that only hurt the babies who will never know what sunlight looks like.

Obama's Financial Help!!!!

President Elected Barack Obama has presented an economic plan that requires congress to agree to a $350 billion bailout funds. That will provided middle class families to have a tax break and provide more jobs. It is believe that about 300 jobs can be created. Democrats are all for the plan they believe that it will give many a break and will create more opportunities. Law makes are working hard to have a bill in by February that is ready for Obama to sign and take an immediate act, off course it is difficult for many to approve. The Treasury Department is not sure that so much money can help the economy. The house is going to vote on the plan next week and if both the house and the senate refuse to agree on it then we might never have the opportunity to recover form such bad economy. Obama has inspired many and many hope that he really makes a different just like FDR did when he took the Presidency on March 4, 1933 that worst thing that can happen is congress cutting strings and he can’t accomplish his promises.

Rod Blagojevich to be impeached!

Impeachment means bring charges against the government official it doesn't mean remove form office until Senate votes and convicts the official.  This later results in removal from office. On January 16 the Governor of Ill.  Rod Blagojevich will have to face the the Senate and wait to be convicted. He has been charge because he tried to sell Barack Obama sit in the Senate.  Of course he believe he has done nothing wrong there he will fight to prove that he is Innocent. The people of Illinois counted on Blagojevich to keep the reputation of Illinois clean. Such support of the people should not be betrayed but the governors actions speak the worst.

The United States declare to be in a recession and so for the year 2009 many are paying attention to the fortune tellers. They want to know how Obama will help the economy. Very nervously we are looking for answers every where making sure that we follow the financial advises. Many are looking for solution and believe that Obama can find a solution.

Even with a bad economy we want peace on earth… NOT!!! On Christmas Eve many Israelis were scared of the terrorist attacked from Gaza. A couple of days later Israel looking for revenge on Gaza boomed the city and left many injure and scared. This political cartoon demonstrates the “Merry Christmas” of the world even though the U.S was not attacked we suffer of economic crisis. :(

We all heard of the "Black Fridays" that encourage people to purchase items at a "cheap price" and that is exactly what this political cartoon is indicating. “All inventory must go now” is because none of the inventory was sold in 2008 and again that’s because of the economic crisis we are all going through. The salesman of the political cartoon mentions “it’s never been better to buy” very excited, but how can the people “act now” with no money to buy even if the prices are low. It’s really depressing to see that many can’t afford to buy what they want because they work so hard and it’s not fair to see them only work to pay bill after bill.

It is not easy to tell your children that Christmas presents are limited this year yet many had to. With such bad economy many families and friends can’t afford to give presents to everyone but of course the U.S was really feeling the holiday spirit by giving money to banks and automakers that went bankrupt and have been making money even if no one can't afford to buy a car. Since not many are willing to buy cars because of the high gas prices automakers have spend many days at home and have to deal with been laid off. Many banks went bankrupt after loans were given to people who couldn't afford to pay back therefore they also need to be help financially. New Member to Obama's Cabinet

As we know president elected Barack Obama has appointed Bill Richardson and Hilary Clinton to his cabinet. He appointed Richardson as secretary of Commerce and Hilary Clinton as Secretary of state. They have agreed on taking such big responsibilities. Obama has made history not only because he became the first African American to become president but also because he has chosen to diverse this cabinet as much possible and now he has appointed General Eric K. Shinseki as Secretary of Veterans Affairs.

General Shinseki was Army chief of staff during the Bush administration and was spoken badly about when he dare to question the strategies been used in Iraq. General Shinseki will now make history by becoming the first Asian American Secretary of Veterans Affairs. Obama is confident that he is the right person to deal with the war and help bring back the troops as soon as possible. Obama keeps thing and making sure that the people he appoints to his cabinet are the good enough are willing to do the best they can to help the United States recover.

Latinos are upset at Barack Obama

During Clinton's administration Bill Richardson was energy secretary and ambassador to the United Nations he has enough experience to be the Secretary of State, so what happen? Well we don't know and Latinos are upset that Hilary Clinton was offer the position over Bill Richardson after he favored Barack Obama over Clinton during the Democratic Primary. Grass-root immigrant rights activists disagree with the possibility of Arizona Gov. Janet Napolitano to be nominated as head of the Department of Homeland Security. Latinos like the fact that Obama wants to make this cabinet a divers one but want more Latinos to be involve in higher positions. Latinos feel their leaders were nominated as a last resource because Obama was nominating white men , women, and African Americans before nominating any Latino until Bill Richardson. We start to see Latinos been place in higher positions for example last Wednesday Cecilia Munos was appointed as the director of Intergovernmental Affairs administration and Bill Richardson as commerce secretary. Latinos might be upset right now but soon will realize that this adminstration will help the United States recover and it won't matter how many latinos were involve what matter is that they help.

United States in Afghanistan

Robert Gates secretary of Defense wants to add U.S forces in Afghanistan. He believes that greater security will be need for next year elections in Afghanistan. United States have 31,000 troops in Afghanistan and are planning to add 3,500 Marines by the end of the year. By January they want to incorporate 5,000 Army Brigade in Afghanistan along with planes and helicopters.

The situation in Afghanistan is in its worst conditions since 2001 because twice as many Americans died in Afghanistan than in Iraq and U.S troops are five times bigger in Afghanistan than in Iraq. Today's meeting strategies were discussed and Gates wants more money spend and more troops sent to Afghanistan. This will add up and double the army in Afghanistan since 2003. Even though the U.S has this in mind other countries disagree and are refusing to help. The United States have asked the NATO allies and Japan but they refuse to send troops and fund this war. The reason why they refuse to help at this point is because they too suffer economically.

Obama pushes Congress

Barack Obama has declared that if congress does not do pass an economy plan then he will make it his first order as President. Obama states that, I urge them to pass at least a down payment on a rescue plan that will create jobs, relieve the squeeze on families and help get the economy growing again.” He has people working in Congress making sure that they are working on it. Obama states that fixing the economy will be his main priority as President. The Bush administration presented the plan of 700-billion-dollar rescue deal for Wall Street ,Obama wants that to help those who might be loosing their homes. He believes that we can create new jobs and strengthen the middle class by having such a bad economy.

He has already appointed Valerie Jarrett as Senior advisor and assistant for intergovernmental relations. He is considering appointing Hilary Clinton as Secretary of state. Obama's intensions are good especially for the lower class and that is something that the upper class is considering bad. They have no economic recession since they have all the money in the world, but we have to deal with having no money.

Obama's Presidential Speech contain concepts such as "black", "white",an "American" to emphasis how important it is to be a united "community" were we can make history. He was the first African- American to become president of the "United States" and he explains that no matter our race we are a "union" and he is willing to maintain that while he is President. His  big idea was "change" and has definitely achieved that not only has he made history but the United States has also made history because we open doors to other races and are willing to give opportunities. 

He states that we all have different stories, but we all have common "HOPES". He is  willing to work towards a perfect union with the help of all and secure that our children and grandchildren have a save future. Obama explains that the problems we face are all our Problems and there is discrimination there. He share his story and inspired me to never give up because it is possible for a Mexican- American like me to become President.

Election Days and American Soldiers

Even though American Soldiers fight a war in Iraq they have an opportunity to vote. Today’s Election turn out will decided the out come of their mission in Iraq. Soldiers vote through absentee ballots and those were sent home long ago. Even though many young soldiers favor Obama some favor John McCain because of the fact that he was a veteran and wants to bring this war to victory. Those who want Obama to win want change and of course they want the war to end. Obama has announced that he is willing to bring back the troops in at least 16 months. America soldiers might be too busy to follow the elections, but they have hope that the right decision will be make. The way the election turns out will change the course of things in Iraq. Even to the soldiers the Elections are very excited and they wish they were here to really experience it.

The Iraq Community also has hopes in the Election. They are excited to have a president in the United States that can hopefully help them in their country. A Baghdad resident states that, “We hope that the new American President will open a new page with our country which was suffering along 35 years under former regime and is still suffering a lot under the occupation.” He believes that they have no freedom and their wealth is not under their control. Yet there are others who believe that choosing the right President can bring disaster to their country. A woman stated that if Obama withdraws the troops too fast it could cause chaos in their country.
